Fingers and Pinchy form the heart and soul of Unit F. Fingers is a constant caretaker within the small group, and has been a mother to at least two calves. She gave birth prior to 2005 however the offspring named Thumb is now deceased. Her daughter Digit was born in 2011.
Fingers is a very elusive and timid whale, and has been difficult to document underwater. She tends to keep a great deal of distance between herself and in-water observers. We do not know the circumstances of the death of her calf Thumb, but her cautious behavior may be a product of her challenging life experiences.
